Autumn Collections

Most eyewear companies release new collections during September, many choosing to show these new collections at SILMO, one of the largest trade shows in the world. However, I’m very privileged to view some of these collections early and so recently I popped over to Rome to take a closer look at an American collection, and boy, was it good!  But I can’t disclose anything yet, as the collection’s not released until later in October, however I guarantee it’ll be worth waiting for.

What I can say is the trends are continuing into the autumn and winter with a similar theme running through from summer 2016.  Flash mirrors are still bang on trend with vintage styling, in particular the 1950s American college look and round panto shapes coming through from the 1930s.

Designers are diversifying and experimenting with colour; muted reds and browns are featuring heavily this autumn and the mood is gradually moving from very casual tortoiseshell and Havana acetates by adding hints of gold to complete a more polished look. Combination shapes are still strong contenders moving into winter – think of ‘To Kill a Mocking Bird’ and the film ‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy’.  Designers are always looking for new ideas, so look out for wood inspired frames, in my opinion it will feature heavily moving through 2017.
