Eyewear inspired by our favourite 2023 movie releases

We are big movie lovers here at Respectacle Company. And we love nothing more than a trip to the cinema. 2023 was an incredible year for films, covering some big topics – and grossing big profits to boot. As we break through the start of 2024 and hear about the Oscar nominations, we thought it might be nice to discuss some of the 2023 cinematic offerings and show you some of the eyewear we hold, which these films showcase best.

So, let’s start with one of our favourite brands and movie franchises. We’ve previously written about L.G.R eyewear and how this Italian brand has been a part of the film and television industry for years. We stock a stunning black L.G.R Dakhla frame worn by Evangeline Lilly in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. Part of the Marvel Universe, the film was released in February 2023.

The Dakhla has been a firm favourite here at Respectacle. We’ve had all the colours available in-store at one point in time, though not always at the same time. The frame is a classic chunky acetate, which you can hide behind or use as a statement piece. It accentuates the features of any face and is a modern take on a unisex classic which has never gone out of style. Head to our online store to shop the L.G.R Dakhla.

The Apple TV+ film Tetris, starring Taron Egerton as Henk Rogers, inspires our second selection. The film, set in 1989, deals with the attempts to obtain the rights to the Tetris game from its Russian inventor, Alexey Pajitnov. We could easily share the Theo Tetris at this stage, but we thought a frame from the Stepper eyewear collection might be a better representative.

The SI-60260 represents the classic styles which have resurfaced in fashion. This titanium frame also personifies the early 1990’s aesthetic showcased throughout the film. SI-60260 is a comfortable classic which has been super popular across all generations, and we think you’ll love these and the whole Theo Stepper collection. Our Theo frames are only available for in-store purchase.

We can’t talk about last year’s big movies without mentioning Barbie. Produced by and starring Margot Robbie, it has become the 53rd film to break profits of over 1 billion dollars worldwide, which it achieved in just 17 days from its release. For the producers Warner Brothers, this was an achievement they haven’t reached since 2011, with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – part 2. Having been nominated for 8 Oscars, Barbie is still making headlines almost six months after its July 2023 premiere.

For this film, we’ve had to go with the feminine stylings of Caroline Abram, specifically in the Connie 757. Sleek and delicate, this model is already a front runner for the 2024 eyewear colours and trends with the delicious colour palette of plum with peach. Connie is a fleeting beauty because as quickly as she arrives, she gets picked to go to her forever home with another stylish lady. So, get in quick if you want to claim one of these beautiful asymmetrical pieces.

The final selection, as expected, is the second part of the phenomenon known as “Barbenheimer”. Oppenheimer was another 2023 film which smashed pre-existing records and has now become the second highest-grossing biographical film. Oppenheimer is now also the highest-grossing World War II film, surpassing Dunkirk in 2017.

Classic in both style and manufacturing processes, L.G.R is deserving of a second mention with the Cairo. An artistic blend of stainless steel and Italian acetate, this model showcases the classic Havana Maculato colouring L.G.R is known for, with the soft white gold colouring appearing almost silver in certain lighting. The model is flexible and timeless; it would not be out of place in Oppenheimer whilst simultaneously being current and fashion-forward enough to feature in the Netflix film Nuovo Olimpo, an Italian romantic drama showcased at the Rome Film Festival in October 2023. We have the L.G.R Cairo Acetate in Gold with Havana Maculato.

These films have made quite an impact on modern cinematic culture and the fashions that precede their releases. And we look forward to seeing the eyewear styles that 2024’s cinematic releases inspire and rejuvenate.
