The short spell of sunshine we recently experienced has come to an end and summer has very quickly moved into autumn. The days are getting shorter, colder and unfortunately wetter. But on a positive note, with the night’s drawing in we can start to settle into cosy evenings watching some of our favourite shows which have just returned to our TV screens.
On Tuesday evenings, we’ve been tuning into Channel 4 for the 12th season of The Great British Bake Off. There’s no better way to brighten up a dull evening than watching Britain’s best amateur bakers compete in the iconic white tent.
It’s a very European mix this year. Bakers originate from Britain, Germany, Italy, Cyprus and South Africa. There’s also a varied age range, the youngest being Freya at just 19 years of age, to 70-year-old Maggie, a retired nurse and midwife.
Just a few episodes in, and we’ve already seen some spectacular showstoppers alongside a few collapsing creations! While the judges spend time deliberating over technical elements of malt loaves, baked sponge cakes and the uniformity of mini rolls, the Respectacle team have been discussing the styling of judge Prue Leith’s statement glasses.
Prue has become known as a style icon in recent years, and her signature trademark is undoubtedly her eyewear choices. During this season of Bake Off she has been wearing a delicious pair of Theo frames in hot pink, which we have in stock here in our Market Harborough store.

We look forward to tuning into Bake Off every Tuesday evening. At this stage, it’s anyone’s guess as to who might be crowned winner of the 2021 Great British Bake Off. If you’ve never watched the show before, we highly recommend it. From gasping at the amazing cakes and bakes to laughing out loud at Matt and Noel’s one-liners, it’s the highlight of our TV viewing week.
